Social Justice Corner: Why Do We Go to Ellacuria?

Why Do We Go to Ellacuria? Submitted by Peggy Leonhardt In 1990 the Central American Study Committee established a twinning relationship with Ellacuria in El Salvador. Among the several criteria for establishing this relationship was a pledge to “walk in solidarity with the people of Ellacuria”. What does it mean to walk in solidarity? It means to develop a strong relationship with the community. We do this when we visit them because we: + Put a face to the people + Actively share our faith and open ourselves to them sharing their faith + See first-hand their needs + Share their experiences + Visit the sacred sites of the martyrs + Develop mutual understanding, friendship, and support + Experience the living church in El Salvador +Grow in our own faith This is why we go to Ellacuria.
