Repairers of the Breach as an Advocate for Change Submitted by Lisa Nimmer As a member of the Repairers of the Breach brown bag lunch ministry at Good Shepherd, I’ve learned much about homelessness from talking to their clients. Most are people are of color who are very faith-filled and have hope in the Lord. They tell us that affordable housing is a major problem and transportation to a job is difficult to find. Many work and are still homeless. I was sad to hear how scared and vulnerable homeless people feel, and touched when a man told us to be careful “out there”. The faith it takes to remain positive is amazing to me. I always leave feeling ministered to and outraged at the same time. My fellow parishioners, we need only look to see the unfairness of homelessness and the people affected by it. Let us not only provide a meal and shelter, but advocate for the change in systems that keep people in this awful circumstance. We are asked to make 10 bagged lunches to bring. (If you cannot attend, you still have the opportunity to make lunches for us to take that day.) We meet at Repairers at 11:30 AM, eat lunch with their guests and engage in a time of Scripture and prayer.
