Social Justice Corner: Your Prayers Are Needed

Your Prayers Are Needed
by Ron Leonhardt
Despite Good Shepherd’s efforts to raise funds for the
digging of a well for the Community of Ignacio Ellacuria,
El Salvador, and the assistance of an NGO to coordinate
the project, significant delays have occurred as the
Salvadoran Water Authority (ASA) has delayed the testing of the water for heavy metals and microbes to ensure it is safe for human and animal consumption. The community reports that it may take 7 to 8 months before testing will occur. Unfortunately this is typical of the lack of responsiveness that the national government has shown for many years when it comes to the needs of our sisters and brothers in Ellacuria. And to make matters worse, there has been a terrible drought and the harvest of basic crops will be very poor as everything is drying up due to the lack of rain.
We are asking you to pray for rain for the crops and quick action by the ASA to complete testing so that the well, which is providing a good flow of water, can be put to use by the community for all their water needs.
