God Will Bless the People with Peace Psalm 29 is a hymn that invites the heavenly court to join in giving glory to the Most High alone. The glory and strength they proclaim gives recognition that the Holy One alone is ruler who has shaped the world. The weapons used are those of thunder – the voice of God – lightning and wind. All creation is one. “The voice of God over many waters” calls us to remember our baptism, a moment in time which marked us in discipleship. We, too, are God’s beloved ones. marked to be Christ-like in all we say and do. O give to God, you heavenly beings, give to God glory and power; give glory to God’s holy name. Worship your God in holy array. For God’s voice is heard on the waters, thundering on many waters; the voice of God is powerful, God’s voice full of splendor. The God of glory thunders! In your temple all cry: “Glory!” You sit enthroned over the flood; you sit, our sovereign forever. [verses adapted from People’s Companion to the Breviary © 1997 by the Carmelites of Indianapolis]
