Gay and Straight in Christ

If you read my articles in our bulletin, you know I always look for something positive happening in the LGBTQ+ community. Recently Deacon Sandy received a booklet from the Family Acceptance Project (FAP). The FAP was developed in 2002 by Dr. Caitlin Ryan and Rafael Diaz to develop a family-oriented model of wellness and care for LGBTQ children. It helps ethnically, racially and religiously diverse families to support their LGBTQ children. They use research-based resources to provide training for families, care providers and religious leaders. They are preparing a family-friendly booklet and have asked several organizations to provide feedback on the draft copy. Our group has met, reviewed the booklet and completed a survey to assist their efforts. We hope this booklet will be widely available soon.

The Family Acceptance Project® (FAP) is directed by Dr. Caitlin Ryan at the Marian Wright Edelman Institute at San Francisco State University, and was developed by Caitlin Ryan and Rafael Dìaz in 2002.
