You Have Rescued Me
In the 1st reading from the Acts of the Apostles, the apostles are brought before the Sanhedrin, the Jewish religious and secular authorities, because they continue to speak in the name of Jesus. Although flogged, they are released and told to stop preaching in the name of Jesus, the Christ. The apostles rejoiced “that they had been found worthy to suffer dishonor.” Psalm 30 gives thanks to God for being rescued (from an enemy, sickness, some distress), for God’s forgiveness of personal failings, for God’s faithfulness, everlasting love and good will. This prayer helps us remain in touch with God’s loving kindness and leads us to cultivate a truly humble heart.
I will praise you, God, you have rescued me
and have not let my enemies rejoice over me.
You have raised my soul from the dead,
restored me to life from those who sink into the grave.
Sing psalms to God all you saints, give thanks to this awesome God,
whose anger lasts but a moment, whose favor through life.
At night there are tears, but joy comes with dawn.
God listened and had pity; came to my help.
For me you changed my mourning into dancing:
my God, I will thank you for ever.
