Ellacuria Solidarity
Submitted by Ron Leonhardt
Last Sunday we shared two videos from our sisters and brothers in Ellacuria. In both, they referred to our mutual “solidarity”. In an article entitled “3 Ways to Live in Solidarity With Those Who Are Suffering” in the July 11, 2017 issue of Outreach Magazine, Craig Greenfield (author of Subversive Jesus: An Adventure in Justice, Mercy, and Faithfulness in a Broken World) offers three aspects of solidarity:
Prayer. As our daily lives go on, we pause to pray that God may be a comfort and strength for others.
Perspective. Awareness that those we care for are not yet able to share in many of the blessings that we experience.
Action. Regarding Ellacuria this includes helping them provide adequate food and water for their community, improve their school, provide scholarships for students, and visit them in person to learn their story and share ours.
As Good Shepherd enters the 36th year of our twinning relationship, may we continue to pray, gain perspective and act in solidarity with our sisters and brothers in Ellacuria.
