Celebrating Mary’s Assumption on Thursday
Catholics are obliged to attend the Mass of Mary’s Assumption on Aug 15 (we celebrate the Mass of Anticipation on the evening of Aug 14.) Rather than focus on the “obligation,” perhaps we should consider the reasons of faith behind the obligation.
Mary is the Mother of Jesus and, as such, possesses the title and identity of “Mother of God.” Mary has enjoyed a singular place of honor and pre-eminence among the communion of saints. This merits special recognition and observance by the Church.
Mary’s Assumption teaches us about prayer, trust and hope. It’s also an example of our destiny in Christ and that death is not the end. (Information courtesy: dioceseoftrenton.org/news/reasons-are-many-for-attending-mass-for-assumption)
Come celebrate the Mother of God online or in-person at Good Shepherd this Thursday August 14 at 6:00 PM.
