Everyday Sustainability Tips

Excerpts found in the magazine Real Simple by people who have found ways to live more sustainably.

  1. Use shampoo bars to replace shampoo in plastic bottles.

2 Ditch paper towels. Buy cloth towels at the dollar store then put them in a cute basket and only use paper towels for oil spills.

  1. Save all vegetable scraps and place in a freezer bag, when full use them to make a vegetable broth.
  2. While waiting for the water to heat up when taking a shower, capture water in a bucket to water outside plants. (I’ve done that with bathtub water, but I’m not sure how easy this would be in the shower. Although in the future, we will need to find ways to conserve on our use of water.)
  3. Wash and reuse zip lock bags. After a few washes, recycle and take with other plastic bags to the grocery store to recycle.
  4. Buy secondhand clothing, housewares, and furnishings.
  5. Lastly put some travel utensils in your bag to use for take-out foods.
