A Light Rises In the Darkness; A Light for the Upright

Psalm 112, used this 5th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year A, echoes the imagery of both the gospel and the first reading. The people who act in justice and generosity both receive and give God’s light. The just ones are steadfast and trust in God. Think of opportunities to further enact God’s justice and goodness in the world. We pray that all in the community will act on their opportunities to become a beaming source of light to others, especially those most in need.

A light shines on the upright in darkness, a God of mercy and justice.

The good lend freely and deal fairly, they will never stumble;
their justice shall be remembered.

Bad news holds no power, strong hearts trust God.

Steady and fearless, they look down on their enemy.

They support the poor, their integrity stands firm, their strength brings them honor.
