Good Shepherd Human Concerns/ Social Justice Ministries

Barbers Without Borders [DS, E]

Volunteers go once a month to St. Ben’s during the meal program to cut hair for all who come in for a meal. We shampoo hair, cut hair and trim beards and mustaches. Contact Monie: home 262 250-3489 or cell 414 870-0826

Cathedral Center - [DS]

Create community the first Sunday evening of the month with a gift of time, food and fellowship with women and families experience a housing or homeless crisis in Milwaukee. Contact Carrie:

Combined Collections - [DS, E, JE]

Collections for 9 ministries (3 per collection) – includes education in the parish newsletter and one speaker (from one of the three ministries) to speak after all weekend Masses.

Deacon Gene Outreach Committee - [DS, E, JE, ADV]

Meets three times a year – 2nd Monday of month - to allocate a percentage of parish income to organizations and ministries working with and/or on behalf of the poor and marginalized.

Ellacuria, El Salvador, Sister Parish Committee - [DS, E, JE, ADV]

Our focus is to remain in solidarity with the people of Ellacuria and El Salvador. We provide moral and financial support that helps in providing the community clean drinking water, a church to worship in, scholarships for education and other sustainable projections. Contact Chuck:

Falls Area Food Pantry- [DS]

Parish support [volunteers plus food and money donations] of the local food pantry, which  provides food for low income families in our area.  Open Tuesdays and Thursdays 12:30-2pm and 5:30-7pm.  Food donations collected in church every weekend – baskets in each entrance.  Contacts Pantry: Parish contact: Monica at 262 250-3489 (h) or 414 870 0826 (c).

Gay and Straight in Christ (GASIC)– [E, JE, ADV]

Welcomes supports and affirms GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender) persons, their parents, families and friends. We offer to all, an inclusive Christian community within the Catholic Church.

HOPE Network – [E]

Hope Network provides programs and services for area single mothers. Volunteer support is needed for bulk mailings, baby-sitting for monthly support group meetings, and transporting donated items. Varied commitment. Contact:

Human Concerns Commission- [DS, E, JE, ADV]

Evaluates, coordinates, and sets goals for parish wide human concerns ministries.

Immigration Study Group - [JE, ADV]

Committed to education and action grounded in Catholic Social Teachings. We search for truth about immigration issues and advocate for fair and just laws that promote family unity and human dignity. Contact Barb:

Listening to Women Ministry - [E, JE]

Women who work toward strengthening the Catholic Church (of the future) by encouraging a community where all people are recognized equally and share responsibilities for spiritual growth. Contact Carrie: or Maureen:

Offering of Letters – thru Bread for the World - [ADV]

Annual letter writing campaign to Congressional representatives advocating for those who experience hunger. Contact: Carol

Repairers of the Breach - [DS. E]

This is a daytime shelter for homeless in Milwaukee. We share a brown bag lunch and scripture

School Supply Drive - [DS]

Collection of school supplies in late July and early August – for HOPE Network, St. Michael Parish and the Cathedral Center.

Sleeping Bags and More - [DS]

Provide warmth and comfort to the homeless by making homemade sleeping bags. Meets Monday mornings,
September-May. Needs: blankets, queen and king-size sheets and mattress pads. Call parish office: 262 255 2035.

Social Justice Corner[JE]

Regular column in the Good ShepherdParish bulletin for updates in these ministries: - Gay and Straight in Christ [GASIC] , Immigration, Human Trafficking Awareness, and Ellacuria, El Salvador Sister Parish – and other Social Justice areas.

St. Ben's Community Meal Program - [DS]

Volunteers prepare food for St. Ben's Meal Program once a month and bring it to Good Shepherd. Drivers and servers also needed. Run/Walk for the Hungry in July on behalf of St. Ben’s and the House of Peace.

St. James and Good Shepherd - Anti-Human Trafficking Committee – [JE, ADV]

We help inform parish members on human sex trafficking that occurs on a local/state and international level.  We also encourage parishioners to share information with others and to take actions to work against the spread of human sex trafficking in our area.    Contact Monie: and Contact: Meg:

St. Michael Parish Ministries/Ministry to Refugees – [DS, E]

Once a week one-on-one tutoring in English as a second language for refugees from Myanmar (Burma) – materials provided. Contact: Barbara:

Women Celebrating the Spirit - [JE, E]

We aim to raise awareness of the role of strong women in church history and to recognize women as spiritual leaders. We want to inspire young girls to explore their gifts and to acknowledge the work women do in the church today. Contact: Barb
