Ask kids if they got their "Mogs and Wogs" registration. Remind them to register online if they are interested in participating.

Background Main Objective

The main objectives of this chapter are best summarized at the end under the heading "The least you need to know."

The bible is a source of controversy and confusion for many Catholics. It is important to stress this fact:

"Catholics believe the bible is 100% true in it's meaning and message. The Bible is not, nor was it ever intended to be, read as true in the areas of science or history."

Starter

Ask the kids about their holiday. Did they go to liturgy? Any reactions?

Ask the kids if they know the two parts of the mass. (1] The liturgy of the Word 2] The liturgy of the Eucharist)

When we hear the word at mass, it is from the lectionary.

Ask the kids to tell you what they believe about the bible. Dig. It can be very interesting.

Ask them to share their favorite Bible story or their most "confusing" story. Share yours!

Lesson

Divide the kids into two groups. They can go with their friends, that's ok.

Assign the first part of Chapter 7 (pages 91 to 96 - up to the heading "The Canon: How are we Sure What Texts are Sacred?") to one half and assign the second half of the chapter (from the heading "The Canon: How are we Sure What Texts are Sacred?" to but "The Least you need to know.") to the other half of the kids.

Tell each group that they are responsible for reading, understanding and then teaching their content to the other group.

Watch your time - make sure they stay on track. Try to get them all to participate. Encourage creativity.

Make sure to save some time for your conclusion.

Ask the kids if they learned anything new. Has their opinion of the Bible changed.

Read the "Least you need to Know" aloud and use the quote in the Main Objective to conclude.
